Veteran American actor James Handy, widely recognized for his appearances in Top Gun: Maverick and Jumanji, has died at the age of 81 following a stabbing incident in Los Angeles.
Authorities confirmed that a suspect has been arrested in connection with the actor’s death after police responded to an emergency call at a residence on Wednesday morning.
Police Launch Murder Investigation
According to law enforcement officials, officers arrived at the property after receiving a 911 call reporting a violent incident.
Upon arrival, they found Handy suffering from a stab wound to the chest in the front yard of the residence. He was transported to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Investigators subsequently arrested 44-year-old Michael Gledhill, identified as the son of Handy’s girlfriend, who reportedly resided at the same property.
Suspect Taken Into Custody
Police said the suspect allegedly identified himself to officers at the scene and was later booked on suspicion of murder.
Authorities confirmed that bail was set at $2 million while investigations continue.
As of the latest reports, no attorney had been publicly listed for the suspect.
A Career Spanning Decades
Born in New York, Handy built a long and respected career in film and television spanning several decades.
He was known to many movie fans for his role in the 1995 adventure film Jumanji and later appeared as bartender Jimmy in Top Gun: Maverick.
Beyond the big screen, he also featured in several popular television crime dramas, including NCIS: Los Angeles, The Closer and Cold Case.
