A Shocking Discovery in Soka Forest
In March 2014, a group of motorcycle taxi drivers in Ibadan, Oyo State, made a horrifying discovery in the Soka Forest. While searching for a missing colleague, they stumbled upon a dilapidated building that concealed a gruesome secret. Inside, they found emaciated survivors chained and locked in rooms, alongside numerous decomposing bodies and human remains scattered around the premises. This site, later dubbed the “Ibadan Forest of Horror,” was believed to be a den for ritual killings and human trafficking.

Survivors’ Harrowing Accounts
The rescued individuals recounted chilling tales of abduction and torture. Many had been lured under false pretenses, such as job offers or assistance, only to be imprisoned and subjected to inhumane conditions. Their testimonies painted a picture of a well-organized network involved in heinous crimes, operating with apparent impunity.
Public Outrage and Government Response
The revelation sparked nationwide outrage, leading to protests and demands for justice. Authorities responded by demolishing the structures within the forest and initiating investigations. However, despite the public outcry, many Nigerians felt that the response was insufficient, and suspicions of high-level complicity lingered.
The Site’s Transformation
In an effort to erase the dark history, the Oyo State government redeveloped the area, establishing the Oyo State Comprehensive Model School on the site. While the transformation aimed to bring hope and education to the community, the memories of the atrocities committed there continue to haunt the collective consciousness.
