A medieval-style fortress hidden in a remote Russian field is attracting attention online after being listed for sale, with many people calling it the perfect location for surviving a zombie apocalypse.
Located in Peskovatka village in Russia’s Volgograd Region, the unusual property sits on a vast 1.2-hectare plot near the banks of the Don River. The fortress-like structure covers approximately 1,100 square metres and stands several hundred metres away from the nearest neighbouring home.
What makes the property stand out is its striking medieval design. The compound features high defensive walls, multiple watchtowers, and architectural elements that resemble a castle from the Middle Ages. Because of its isolated location and fortress-style construction, many online observers have compared it to a real-life zombie apocalypse shelter.
The property belongs to Russian businessman and developer Vladimir Galaganov. According to reports, Galaganov originally built the structure as part of a larger dream of creating his own castle-inspired complex.
The developer previously explained that he envisioned the site as more than just a private residence. His plans reportedly included hosting historical events, cultural gatherings, Cossack activities, and medieval-themed tournaments.
However, the ambitious project was never fully completed. As a result, Galaganov eventually decided to put the property on the market.
The fortress first gained public attention in 2021 when it appeared on Russian real estate platforms. At the time, the asking price was significantly lower than it is today.
Despite several price adjustments over the years, the property has now returned to the market with a reported asking price of 40 million rubles, equivalent to about $550,000.
According to the owner, changing personal circumstances influenced his decision to sell the unique estate.
Experts believe the property could appeal to buyers interested in tourism, hospitality, themed entertainment, or private retreat projects. Others simply see it as one of the most unusual residential properties currently available in Russia.
While there may not be an actual zombie apocalypse on the horizon, this remote Russian fortress certainly looks ready for one.
